DON'T: Wash you hair every day. It strips out the natural oils that are beneficial for healthy hair. Dry shampoo is your new best friend!
DO: When you wash your hair, shampoo twice with a professional grade shampoo. The first time removes buildup and the second time cleanses the scalp. I love Euphora's Urgent Repair Shampoo because it is specific to damaged hair and works fabulously.
DON'T: Use a towel to dry your hair. It pulls out the moisture and is very harsh on already split ends.
DO: Use an old cotton t-shirt to dry your hair. Much more gentle.
DON'T: Brush your hair when wet because wet hair has no elasticity, which equals breakage.
DO: If you must brush out your wet hair to avoid major tangles, use a leave in conditioner and wide tooth comb. Start gently detangling from the ends to the roots.
DON'T: Use heated styling tools too much. They simply fry your already dead ends. That's not to say never use your favorite curling iron, just try not to use it every day before work or school.
DO: Use a heat protectant every time before using your heated styling tools. Also, if you know you are going to use a curling iron or straightener, do not put any oils in your hair.
DON'T: Over process your hair. I was getting my hair colored bleach blonde for over 4 years and it caused major damage. The bleach on top of bleach on top of bleach thinned, broke, and dried out my hair so badly.
DO: Use some sort of macadamia or coconut oil occasionally on dry hair. If your hair is extremely dry, use once a week. Once you see improvements, cut back to once every other week.
I hope these tips help you take your hair from drab to fab!
